Saturday, September 29. 2012
Pleased with her theft of a Hyperion-class Gallente battleship, the shadowy capsuleer left the station, about to embark on the ship's maiden voyage.
The capsuleer groaned as she undocked to find a squadron of three Hurricane battlecruisers awaiting her.
"Prepare to die, thief!" the message blipped in her local channel, giving her all the warning she needed.
She willed her damage control module to go online as well as her guns to start tracking the three 'canes. The battlecruisers, comparatively agile to the Hyperion, orbited her at a close range, their medium autocannons shredding through her shield's weak resistances.
Her rack of eight electron blaster cannons began shooting the closest hurricane as a firing solution was formulated by the ship's onboard computer, firing with a shuddering *whomp*. The accelerated particles hit their mark perfectly, dealing a wrecking shot to the first assailant. Armour groaned under the force of the attack, another volley loading to be fired just a few second later.
"Shit, drones!" the capsuleer thought to herself, forgetting all about her flight of mark II Hammerhead combat drones. She again willed her ship to release the remote vessels, directing them towered the second Hurricane with guns blazing.
She smiled as the first ship was shot to pieces, eventually exploding into an explosive ball of plasma. One down, two to go. The large guns rotated in their hardpoints, aiming towards the third battlecruiser, when a warning blared inside her pod. "Armour status critical."
She had forgotten to power her armour repair modules! Swiftly willing the two nanite injectors to began reshaping her hull's thick plating. "The capacitor is empty." She swore in as many languages she knew, turning on the final modules: her capacitor boosters. A quick surge of power brought her ship back into the game, ensuring the battlecruisers' energy neutralizers did not cripple her chances.
Out of the corner of her vision, she watched the second 'cane explode under the fire of her drones.
"Attack the third, now!" she yelled, as if it would make a difference. She heard soft blips as each drone confirmed her vocal command.
She could hear the scream as the third ship was destroyed, incinerating the capsule within. Well, she imagined she could hear it.
Taking a deep breath and recalling her drones, the capsuleer sat in utter silence as her heart beat at an astounding rate, adrenaline finally subsiding from the riveting five minutes of combat.
Foolishly, she closed her eyes for a minute, not thinking to check the list of pilots in the system, as three more battlecruisers warped to her location. She almost cried to herself, but bit her bottom lip and again aimed her guns, carefully remembering to activate all of her modules. She was just about to fire, when a warning sound clicked, her onboard AI speaking in a brash tone.
"The module has run out of charges."
Ah, fuck.

Little background – I have spent more than half of my EVE life in 0.0. If you didn't venture there yourselves I can tell you that most of the stories about 0.0 being mostly “blobs” are true. Well, you will find a small gang of 2-3 people here and there but they will usually be a group of people in T2 ships with a very specific setup. Going solo against those will either get you killed or scoring you no kills since they will run and hide if they can't take you. Combine that with a fact my character is a Caldari missile user and you see how my chances of scoring a nice 1v1 kill (or, in lots of cases, even a fight of any kind) is hard. Missing out on highsec or lowsec pirating in my early days has left me itching for such a fight though. All I got up until this point was one close escape from a solo Damnation or people running in fear from my Drake due to it being a popular bait ship. So I turned my attention to only form of 1v1 I can easily find, hunting ninja ratters.
If you are unfamiliar with the concept, ninja ratters are people usually from small corps or even NPC corps without access to 0.0 who still want a piece of bounties you get from rats in 0.0. Thought of a single BS kill bringing you up to 1.85mil ISK is a tempting one for sure. So they crawl their way into someone else's 0.0 space in a ratting ship, find a quiet system where there's not much traffic and rat away. Of course, anyone entering local means they will warp to a safe and cloak up until whoever is pursuing them just gets bored and moves on. They don't offer a challenge in combat but none the less they are a sort of people who you could do without in your space you bled for to conquer.

This morning, i flipped a retriver.. He didnt engage, darn.. Oh but a hurricane showed up from another corp, but with more or less the same name. Ah must be the main of the retriver.
He flipped the can back.. Doh, the toon was over 1 year old, that could only mean bad business, well i really didnt have much to lose so i engaged.
Man, a cane on range hit hard on a rifter and i was both scrammed and webbed so my speed wernt that great. I was just hopping to get within tracking range of his autoconnons. With most of my shield gone, he started missing.
Phyyy, i was shaking like never before, waiting for him to release his most likely warrior IIs.. weird no drones..
As i was really slowly eating trough his shield, the retriver desided to engage with his drones.. Hornets.. I quickly took them out 1 by one turning my web and guns on the drones. As i was about to engage the retriver also, it managed to warp out.
I turned focus back to the cane, still shaking. with really low skills about 450k sp now, i should be more than lucky to take down a 1 year old cane. His shield went down, and i started pounding the armor. No way i would be able to break an armor tank on a cane doing 30 damage per hit.
To my supprise i saw the armor slowly dropping. After pounding the cane for like 10 min, the retriver returned and again released his drones on me. Oh man, once more i had to turn focus on drones and take them down fast. They did manage to get into my armor before i managed to take them out. I quickly tried to lock the retriver, but again he managed to warp out.
After another 10-15 min of pounding this cane, he finally got into hull...
HA!! Ransom time, man this must sad for him, getting a ransom from a 9 days old.
Oh wait.. WHAT!!!
The guy is not in local anymore, but still here scrammed... Bummer the dude had locked out of game. Ah well nothing else i could do than blow him to pices.
I went to loot his wreck, looking forward to see this poor fit. WOW pure T2. The loot along brought in over 10 mill isk. Not bad for a 9 day old.
But yes the fit was really pore, you can find it on battleclinic.
http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/killmail.php?id=10518138
Looking forward, for more Yarrrs in the upcomming days
Rifter fit used:
3x 150mm ac 1
1x Warp scram 1
1x Web 1
1x ab 1

Since it was my first time out and I've only been playing EVE for about three weeks now, I was slightly intimidated by the idea of fighting the Vexor and all the drones at the same time but I decided to do it anyways. It'd be good experience regardless of the outcome.I quickly moved in, afterburner blazing, while the Vexor pilot simply looted his wrecks; didn't he notice me?
Once I made it within range, I activated my scrambler and stasis webifier and quickly started orbiting at 500m. Within moments his shields were going down under the combined firepower of three 150mm autocannons and a rocket launcher. However, the Vexor had not yet opened fire or attacked with drones. What was he doing? Did he have a secret weapon? Apparently not because around when I started hitting his armor he finally began attacking me with, if I recall correctly, 250mm railguns which could not hit me. His drones, however, were now attacking me and were eating through my shields rather quickly.
Choosing to forgo targeting the drones in favor or trying to finish the Vexor quickly, I kept all my firepower on the main target and in short order he was into structure. At this point I opened a conversation hoping for a nice ransom to pad my wallet. However the Vexor pilot turned out to be Russian and did not speak English so he did not understand my demands for ISK and I ended up destroying the Vexor in one of the most beautiful explosions I have seen in EVE.
I decided to let the pod go and just go straight for the loot. A decision that probably enabled me to escape with any loot at all because seconds after I had filled my cargohold a battleship warped to zero right on top of me! With my armor and ammo running low, I decided to warp to a nearby planet and then docked at a station to survey my winnings. In total I made over 1.5M from my first kill!
It was a good day and I look forward to more kills, and probably deaths, in the future.

i head out to my scan spot to start looking through the belts. i can see them on 360 but cannot seem to find anything on 5. so i decide to sit in a belt and wait. nothing comes. i grow bored and tired and make one last attempt at 5 degree scans and i get a hit, a punisher on planet 6! this is too good to pass up and will be easy for me to pop if i can get a lock on him before he bolts. i warp into to planet 6 area at 0 and viola, there he is and ready to fight.

Empire wars.
At first I was nervous about starting wars with people because I was not sure exactly how much I am able to handle. Up until this point I have only engaged cruisers and frigates because that’s all I have ever run in to not including blob gatecamps. So I decided that our first corporation to declare war on would be Jeti-Su Avars, a Turkish corp based out of Osmeden.
The war goes through and we don’t hear anything from their CEO and only 2 of the 15 people I regularly saw floating around Osmeden were online the first 2 days. I knew that a majority of them were mission runners so they would have fighting skills instead of rock biting skills, so it was a little depressing to see that they weren’t willing to log in, let alone engage.
Unfortunately, I had to put EVE on hold because of an exam I had that week so I didn’t have time to go out and hunt them, and from what I hear my other corp mate and then CEO didn’t have time either. Since this whole empire war thing was new to us, our CEO forgot to pay the war bills and the next time I logged on I had a mail laughing at me that I wouldn’t be able to attack them in 24 hours.
Fortunately there were two war targets in system so I decided to try the easiest way to find them: fleet invites.
Dai Khan > hi, do i know u?
Dai Khan > did u just offre me fleet?
Nexi Katu > yes i offered you to join my fleet
Dai Khan > for?
Dai Khan > seems we are at war
Nexi Katu > you looked new and i was wondering if you needed some help
Dai Khan > lol
Nexi Katu > yes we are at war
Dai Khan > how stupid do u think i am m8

Nexi Katu > hey its worth a try
Dai Khan > lol ok goodluck
I quickly found out which station they were in and plopped my Thorax right outside. I guess my corp’s absence lulled them in to a sense of security. Either way, I scored my first war kill against another Thorax. I gave him good fight in local which he didn’t return, but I was not sure if he even spoke English so I let it go. Not two minutes later, Dai Khan in a caracal undocks which I quickly lock down and pop in no time flat. Score first and second blood in a war that was set to end in 5 hours.
The second guy was pretty cool about the whole war thing, even though he was a little angry that I attacked right before the war lapsed. As I talked to him about the war and Turkey and what not, I notice a 6 year old player fighting three or four of his corp mates outside the station. They were in Maiden Corp, a UK based corp. I decide to fly over and see what happening when the 6 year old’s Navitas was blown up by the others. I opened the wreck and stole a lone T2 light blaster from it and sat and waited.
It didn’t take long for my flashiness to entice one of the Thoraxs to open fire on me. I was disappointed at how fast he went down, but I got my hopes up when I realized 3 other characters just saw me blow up their corpie. Just as I had hoped for, two opened up on me simultaneously so I scooped up the loot from the first wreck, sent my drones after one of the others, and tackled and blastered the other one that aggroed. They both popped about the same time, and the fourth hurriedly docked up.
Feeling satisfied with myself, I scooped up what loot I could fit in my cargo and slowly made my way back to station when the six year old player, Heaven Sent, came out in a Ferox. I asked him if he could patiently wait for me in local and ran to grab my Myrmidon which was in a different station.
I warped practically right on top of him when I got back and opened fire as soon as he aggroed me. I never expected my 6 month old character could stand up to someone as old as him, but I figured I would give it a shot and see what I really can do. Turns out it was next to nothing. I got his shields down near half when I decided I should de-aggress and redock. At 50% structure I finally was able to dock up.
I had a good conversation with Heaven and the Maiden CEO, Markus Sparkus. They told me that Heaven was teaching them a few things about pvp when one of them accidentally blew up his Navitas, and Heaven said that they were glad I came along and gave a real pvp lesson.
[ 2009.04.13 19:44:35 ] Nexi Katu > hey sorry for blowing up your guys ships
[ 2009.04.13 19:44:51 ] Nexi Katu > that was a really fun fight though

[ 2009.04.13 19:49:51 ] heaven sent > nah there cheap you serve them lol
[ 2009.04.13 19:50:13 ] heaven sent > i build them 20 thoraxes for training

[ 2009.04.13 19:50:17 ] Nexi Katu > ok i do feel bad for popping new players sometimes
[ 2009.04.13 19:50:19 ] Nexi Katu > ok
[ 2009.04.13 19:50:32 ] heaven sent > good xp for them lol
[ 2009.04.13 19:50:52 ] Nexi Katu > that was fun, i hope to see you around
[ 2009.04.13 19:50:52 ] heaven sent > they loved it best fun they had in a while lol
[ 2009.04.13 19:51:01 ] heaven sent > nps

Since our first war left me feeling a little dejected I decided to throw in a vote for a war against Maiden. I figure I could dodge Heaven for a while and score some kills against the rest of the youngins I saw that day. Luckily for me, a spectator of the whole thing named fwgmrtoad that was in a corp called FWG Mining and Salvage said that my picture looked cute. Aww what the hell, lets vote to deck his corp too.
While waiting for the vote and dec to go through I got a convo from my old lame alliance leader. He had sent me a mail with a link to his killboard about about wanting me back since they were getting so many uber awesome kills against Bestowers and Caracals. Since he ran a vent that my current corp mate and I still used, I decided to be civil. Even so, I was happy he wasted 1 mil on my CSPA to beg me to come back.
With my epeen-o-meter near full, I logged out and dreamt about all of the pretty explosions I will be seeing in two days. I will write the rest of the story as soon as our wars with Maiden and FWG finish up.

About 5 minutes later a Thorax appears on my overview, the pilot's name is....Bill, that'll work. Anyway, I just watched and waited. Tempted to lock on but afraid to scare him off. I saw him fly closer and closer to the container, then just sit there. All of a sudden his name goes all flashy red and I figured now was time to act. I targeted and activated every one of my guns, as well as my afterburner just in case. At first he didn't do much, just fired at me with blasters which didn't do much, then I saw he was moving towards me. I clicked the button to orbit at 18km and my ship spun around and started a wide circle around him.
I'd been hitting his shields for about 30 seconds, gotten them down to around 50% when Ted decided he'd help, sending all his drones after Bill. Bill immediately switched targets and it was over pretty quick, with Ted sitting in a pod. After that I started to get worried but figured I had to finish what I started. My ship was a little faster than his, so I kept the edge on him, but soon as he hit armor he warped out. I was a little stuck there for a second then I saw a blinky on my chat window. It was Ted, back in our convo! He informed me of the belt he'd followed Bill to and I set off, making sure to warp to within my range. There we continued the same dance, him trying to catch me, and me firing round after round at his ship. He hit around half armor and warped again, this time I saw where and chased after him.
As I was warping I remembered something, I had hit warp to 0! Hoping he would still be far enough away to engage well I exited the warp tunnel smack on top of him. Right away he opened up with every blaster and what looked to me like dozens of drones, though there were only five. I tried to get away but he had fitted a scrambler, so all I could do was fire pointlessly at him with my long range guns. I saw my shields, armor, and finally hull melt away then the bright flash I've become so accustomed to seeing now. I'd had a lesson learned, and didn't lose much. Most of all though, I'd found out I really did like pvp, and that's what started me on the path to piracy.

It was early morning and i logged in to find my home system full of people. Lex Fasces and Maekar Targaryen are online; i know they're looking for a fight, i also know they fly a harby and an ishkur. My friend Pahra is also online and a lot of new faces in local. I talked to Raven Khk and asked if he wants to join us. Ive seen him and talked to him in the system plenty of times and thought he can be trusted. Man, i was wrong! He said he's doing a plex but can come and help us once i got a point on Lex or Maekar.
I asked Pahra whether he's willing to use his Rokh in this fight and he agreed. So i changed fitting quickly to suit the situation and undocked in my omen navy issue. Once outside, i did a 360 scan, there's a lot of ships in the result but i know who im looking for. I warped to a planet close to the belt they are in and got in position. By this time another friend Cael Ironstaff logged in and i invited him to our fleet. He flies an arazu. I found the belt Lex and Maekar are in and asked my fleet to get ready, they responded and i was off. I landed on top of our targets and they got a point and web on me almost immediately. I told my fleet to warp to me and the fight was on. My shield was going down fast, too fast. My armor was down to about 50% when i saw another one of their ally, cariusdius, enter the system. Damn, it seems they baited us and we took it. My armor is steadily dropping and already i know my friends wouldn't be able to get to me in time. I overloaded all my modules; weapons, repper and resists hoping to stay in the fight for as long as i can. Finally my friends arrived at the scene, Pahra in his Rokh, Cael in Arazu, and Raven in his Cerb. I felt a sigh of relief; even if i lose my ship, im sure they can pop both of these guys.
But suddenly Raven left our fleet and started shooting Pahra. Traitor! I know we were screwed. My hull stopped taking damage for a few seconds at 47% and i know Cael in his Arazu jammed someone; it didnt last long though and eventually my Omen Navy popped. I warped off and came back at 100km only to see cariusdius in his Retribution enter the fight.
It was hopeless, Pahra and Cael are fighting against overwhelming odds, but i dont want to abandon my friends.. I asked them if they can hold on for a bit longer while i get a new ship.. There was no reply. I asked again and waited. Still none. I arrived at the station and quickly got my BS and undocked.. Damn the black screen is taking so long.. When i was finally outside i hit warp quickly. I got global aggro and was already taking heavy fire from the sentry when Pahra said the fight was over. His rokh was down. Cael managed to warp off.
We've suffered terrible a loss, and i feel im partly to blame because of my bad judgement. But hats off to Pahra and Cael, they fought bravely. It was great flying with you guys. =)
my third loss
pahra's rokh
Im still in a noob corp but IF you guys enjoyed my story and are looking for people to fly with, contact me in-game. Im always looking for buddies and i dont care what your SP level is. The intent is to pvp and have fun.

Or perhaps it was the "simpler" sensory input that he is fed from this ship.. This ship that he took was hardly in the forefront of current technology. But for a various reasons, it has a fearsome reputation.. There was a powerful simplicity to the exposed structures and engine mounts of the Rifter that was open for all to see.. Even as his own inner nature was not, to others, as well at times, to himself.
His superiors back in the Federal Navy would have a lot to say about his choice of a ship.
He doesn't know why he came here on his own now. After all, he is used to following orders about what to do and what not to .. The recent denouncement and subsequent expulsion of his Corp from the militia did not sit well with him. For all the accomplishments and battles won, sometimes all it takes is the whim of some bureaucrat to render all of that null and void.
The reverie was broken as the ship shudders when it drops out of the warp tunnel and into the Caldari complex. Two ships appear on within the overview as the camera drones register their types. A Kestrel and a Thrasher. Of the two, the Thrasher would cause him trouble, if not destroy him outright.. However, for some reason, the destroyer just warped away. Leaving only the Kestrel behind..
..and of course, the Caldari Military ships that guard this complex.
The moment is here. His ship streaks towards the target and the locking cycle begins to start. The ship seems to pulse with its own excitement, sensing perhaps the destruction that is to come. It does get difficult to split the two sometimes, hard in knowing where the human part ends and where the machine begins.
Thus, the dance begins. A scram snakes out and locks onto the target while the simplistic autocannon's start spewing their barrage ammo. The ship shudders as the other Caldari military ships start firing back with missiles and railguns. But he is fast, as long as the speed is maintained and the Kestrel is corralled within his gun's range, he should be safe.
A warning signal flashes up briefly as the scram loses lock. A curse registers in his mind as he re-aligns the ship again, for the haste he has shown to throw off the targeting systems of the Caldari has made him lose track of his quarry. But no matter. The Kestrel remained. Foolhardy or just the blind faith on the Caldari military's capability?
Whatever it was, the frigate blossomed into a fireball. The shudder of the Rifter's structure starts to get more pronounced as the damage from the other Caldari ship finally gets through the shields and into armour. He then re-aligns outwards and warps off. The loot didn't matter, after all. That wasn't the point.
For the first time in many years. He smiled. Perhaps this new turn of events weren't so bad after all..

The FC addressed the fleet on Fleet comms and ordered everyone to set destination to Base and align to the next Stargate. The nine-ship squad turned in unison toward the Stargate and headed in its direction. The search for the war targets was put on hold as we all began downloading the reports of what ships the red pilots are in, and where in the system they were last spotted. At the 4 jumps out mark the FC got word from HQ that the red pilots have moved out of the system. "Change of plans gents, looks like HQ wants a blockade at the empire gate(a Stargate in the HQ system that links high-sec to low-sec, our base being on the low-sec side), once in system get re-fitted or change ships if needed, for a blockade setup and form up at the empire gate in 10 mins, how copy", the FC barked over Fleet comms, all of the squad members responded in order confirming their acknowledgment, "Bandit Actual, this is Bandit Five, solid copy", was my response.
When we were 1 jump out from base I ordered my comms officer to make contact with the Dock Officer at HQ. "Sir I have the Dock Officer on link", my Comms Officer informed me, "good, tell him to prep the Caracal Navy Issue(A-1) for a blockade with max damage output", I ordered. After jumping into the HQ system the Intel Officer reported, "zero reds in system sir". "Align to dock, warp when ready", I ordered as my Blackbird(E-4) cruiser came out of jump cloak and aligned to the HQ station. While the ship was moving through the warp corridor towards the HQ, I gave the crew their disembark and re-embark orders and then checked the last reports from HQ on the activities in local the past thirty minutes. The reports were reasonably mild, a few rats got splashed and a dullwatt(idiot) miner got popped in an ice field. This dullwatt somehow did enough research to find an ice field one jump out of high sec, but doesn't do the extra clicks to find out that it is home to a few pirate corps.........dullwatt.
At the HQ the ship change went smoothly, the crew were moving into their stations aboard the A-1 quickly and the officers were reporting 100% systems and stations readiness. "Sir we are ready to undock" the Bridge Officer turned and said to me, "Undock and align to the empire gate", I ordered. Outside the HQ station my corp-mates were testing their resistances and locking speeds on each other’s ships, once assured they can tank damage as long as they plan to, they warped off toward the gate to get into position. When the A-1 came out of warp at the empire gate, the trap was already set by my fellow corp mates and a few blue(friendly pilots of another corp) pilots in BS's, BC's, and Tech 2 cruisers.
"Gate Fire, Gate Fire", exploded over the Fleet comms link, "Ready the launchers", I ordered, "Launchers ready" the Missile Chief barked. Then the overview lit up when the unknown ship came out of jump cloak, "Its a Vagabond" my Intel Officer informed me, "Not blue shoot it, get webs on it fast", the FC shouted over Fleet comms. The sentry guns came alive blasting into my corp-mates who were quick enough to lock and fire first. As soon as my ship's sensors gained lock the missile launchers opened up with a thunderous roar and a bright glow.
The infamous blue hue from a corp mates weber wrapped around the Vagabond as my heavy missiles closed in on it with screaming velocity. The BS's already nullified the Vagabond's shields so my volley of heavy missiles smashed directly into the Vagabond's armor releasing an incredible amount of kinetic energy upon impact. The other ships unleashed a portion of their ordinance payloads into the Vagabond, which commenced its destruction. After the fantastic light display from the large amounts of energy released when the Vagabond erupted disappeared, the dull metallic glare of a pod capsule could be seen. The pilot tried to maneuver her lone pod to align to any object in which she could warp off to relative safety, only to be locked and popped as well. I'd bet that pilot wishes she had a change of plans before she jumped into this system.

sigh
"Oh well, gotta learn somehow" I keep telling myself.
The system has been dead most of the night and I'm about to set my nav to the station and call it when I see a blip appear on my scanner. It's one I remember seeing earlier but was too busy tweaking my targetting computer to track it down. I do a quick scan and don't see any 'buddies' hiding in the system so I decide to go take a look.
"Hmmm, a Merlin."
I track him from cluster to cluster, looks like he's ratting.
My hands are shaking from the adrenaline rush. This is my first try at this with no corp backup.
I punch in the coordinates for the cluster's planet and scan each belt.
"Got him!"
He's sitting in a belt face to face with one of the local rats...I'm not sure he even saw me warp in behind him. I quickly throw the nose of my ship toward him and punch the MWD on full. Gotta close this distance fast.
My targetting computer screams as positive lock is established and I scramble his computer.
"No where to run now my friend"
I feel the slight shudder of my ship as my weapons toss their deadly payload toward him. Explosions all around him as his shields and armor melt away. It all happens much faster than I expected as the void of space explodes in a brilliant light in front of me. I lock down the pod and send the pilot on a quick trip back to the cloning facility.
Quickly securing the leftovers from the wreck, I zip off to a safespot to wait out the timer...those station guns are cruel mistresses.
I constantly watch my scanner for 'friends' to jump in and start hunting me. My heartrate finally slowing down I realize in my haste I had forgotten to turn on my defenses! 'Good thing he went down quick or I would've looked REALLY stupid' I think to myself.
A comm flickers from my CEO:
"Congrats"
I smile to myself, "So this is it...this is what I've been searching for..."
I hear my warp drives powering up as I turn toward home...
"Yarrr"

Single Target in-bound. I had dropped out of warp less than fifteen seconds ago and already a target! Rifter class frigate. Thought spans in all directions, as my ship fires all engines, leans into a tight orbit, slips into partial warp with the Micro Warp Drive, and the concentration shifts to locking the target. All modules stand ready as my sensors pinpoint their target. I can feel my mouth water, I have to force I swallow.
Lock. A brief moment everything dims as all modules light off. Warp Scrambler, Statis Webifier, and Four Nosferatu modules. Almost as quickly, energy surges back in to the capacitors, bleeding the target dry.
The Drones, already armed, spill from their hiding place, blazing towards the target. Their first combined volley tears away the Rifter shields. No big accomplishment there, but when the second and third sear and char their way through the Rifter’s armor and into his hull I giggle. I command a ceasefire to the drones.
I hail my target. Two Hundred Thousand ISK. Short and sweet. I'm nervous at this point, I'd rather not become someone else's kill. This is taking too long. I start counting off over comms.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
... A reply. "1 second"
One Decimal Five.
One and One Third.
One Decimal One.
Another message, begging "I'm a new pilot"
Decimal Nine.
Decimal Five.
Zero.
The drones eagerly jump to life. Their first volley ignore what little shield recharge had occurred in the interval. Pieces of the Rifter go spewing in all direction as that one lucky round ruptures the Fusion Core.
The Escape Pod flies past my Thorax, already initiated into Warp. That's fine. There will be others.
I hit Warp again; I spent too long in that belt. Next time I'll know not to wait so long. After a few belts my mind wanders back to the plasma cloud burning freely from my last target. What beauty is to be found in destruction!
Proximity alert! My warp drive had already aligned to the next belt. Scanners already cleared their cache. What was that?
I stop in this belt and fire up the MWD. I want some distance between me and the opponent. Local comms start to chatter. I'm being hunted! The thrill sparks again. A whole new rush, not of the kill, but of the chase.
I let my eagerness gets the best of me. I allow my position to slip over comms, and within seconds a Rupture class cruiser warps in. With over 243km between us, I realize that I am still in control of this fight. Just then, some Angel Militia Pirate's warp in to investigate. My opponent quickly dispatches them. In fact, so quick that my surprise attack doesn't succeed. I couldn't align that fast.
The same dance begins. Lock. All systems initiate. Drones released. I hear the larger Auto Cannons of my opponent penetrating my shielding, tearing into my armor. Enemy Drones sending their Lasers into my hull, separating steel from structure. I increase orbit and try firing some Smart Bombs that I had fitted to shake the drones, open distance to prevent Auto Cannon damage, but it was too late. Modules and main systems alike were shutting down. Damage controls had failed and most of the ship had de-pressurized. Now I watch from my escape Pod as my Fusion Core erupts. I chuckle, as the odd tingle the Pod has in its warp shudders through me, and I make a clean getaway back home.
Once at a safe distance I pull my attacker up on comms. I thank him, now I know what to be cautious for, I have learned. One more lesson, one more step towards my destiny.
I return to station and browse the markets for my next combat ship. I run a few simulations for Capacitor Efficiency, Shield and Armor Durability, and Weapon Damage Outputs.
But before I have a chance to make any purchases, other pilots from my corporation send me a fleet invite. We have a war target trying to make his way towards Rens.
I ponder a moment. Haste requires a ship already fitted, in hangar, and ready to fly. I put out the alert, scramble my Jaguar for immediate departure!

Old Dog still learning New Tricks

I did meet up with a startup pirate corp, and went so far, far away to a system called "Jan" The galaxy was a lot bigger than I had imagined. Here I found out two things. One: T2 fittings and ships beat T1. And Two: I had no way to pay for or fly such things.
So my course was this- I make a fortune and pay for these things, and train constantly as hard as I could until I was the best! I invested in Learning Skills so I could train harder and faster than I supposed any other pilot could, and researched fitting schemes and money making ventures....
... I woke up. A year and a half later, there were foreign objects in the POD fluid, and I’m still aching from detox. I don't know where I am, no familiar stars are in view. I had been piloting the same ship class I had fantasized about, only it's scatted remains were in orbit with me around an unfamiliar moon. I rebooted my Navigation system and found that I was 44 jumps outside of any CONCORD presence. What I had been doing out here was still baffling me. I checked my comm systems, most of the data there was either encrypted or corrupted. A few sparse messages informed me that I had joined up with an alliance and then had been removed. My assets had been removed from my hangar and I was wanted. Infamy it seemed was not something I enjoyed. I'm not sure how I had escaped the same wrath the debris of my once proud ship had endured. That thought alone got my heart racing. Panic sobered me the rest of the way up and I stressed my ship systems in getting "home". I few close calls but thankfully my brain still knew how to fly this thing better than I ever remembered. I had dozens of "Books" downloaded that I cannot remember fully to this day, but I always seem to come up with the answer.
Lost and confused, I was accepted into a corporation to help with their industry concern. Oddly, I had also been trained in that too, although it bores me to no end.
Another year has passed. I have enjoyed the company of numerous pilots and been hired into a few corporations since. I finally have been accepted back into society and even get jobs from an agent or two from Brutor Tribe. I'm back in my homeland and it feels great...
...Until Yesterday.
The local channel fires up. A Pilot was upset that no one would "take his can" Producing such a challenge was not too smart, someone might take him up on it. I jump into my trusty Rifter. I open his can. Flagged for combat, his friends uncloak and I barely get my pod back into station. He laughs and informs me that if he had lost to a Rifter he would have quit flying.
Anger! Just like in those first long months. I have not felt this way in years. Only today, I have a generous account, the skill to fly ships of any race, and well, and the support of numerous other pilots.
I place a "Buy Order" on the markets for a Thorax. They have a deadly potential, and I have been researching other ships for more capabilities...
I will have my fleet, I will have my revenge. 3

so I finish my warp scrambler and stasis web skills (finally) and grab an atron for the fun to begin. I'm cruising the belts and spot a retriever jetcanning. I flip it and he quickly warps out, and returns in a pretty nice vexor. he starts hitting me and I warp out and grab MY vexor.
I get back and the fight begins. he locks on and starts pounding my shields, and I'm taking about twice as much damage as him... not good
Then I back off a bit, and realise he has blasters and I have rails. lovely. I'm taking almost no hits now, and his armour seems to be dropping nice and fast, and yep, there he goes.
