About a week ago, I was in Amarr in a new alt, cruising the belts in a Punisher looking for some action. I came across a Belliscose jet can mining. He didn't have a Mining laser fit, and was just using a rack of mining drones - obviously spoiling for a fight.
However he did have 5k volume of ore in his can. I reshipped to a Stabbed Hauler, and swooped in to relieve him of his Ore - just in time to see him polishing off some rifter. I grab the Ore and head to the station.
I have a sum total of 800k SP on this toon - but hey, if he wants a fight I'll give him one.
I re-ship to a dual 1600mm plate maller. Enough of a tank to give most things a run.
I return to the belt, and he opens up on me right away, switching out mining drones for warriors. I start by webbing and killing a few of his drones, before I start to chew through his bellicose's shields.
Its not looking good for him, when suddenly, what should appear but a Myrmidon. That would be the same one that I saw on short range scan.
I web and kill one of his hammerhead II's, the bellicose is not looking healthy. And then the Myrm fires up it's ECM. I am permajammed. How very very ghey.
I have to sit there as they chip away at my tank, and eventually Boom goes the Maller..
I was sort of pissed off. I mean if you want a fight, its all very well. But bringing ECM to kill a brand new toon is rather lame. I sent them both an email exclaiming the same. And both replied back - you stole the ore, you get punished, quit whining. I resolved to get revenge.
Last night I was in the same toon, and warped to the bookmark I had made of their can from the previous week. Just so I could get close to a belt, and set a hauler mining for the evening while I went AFK. When I see the same guys, in EXACTLY the same position. What luck.... I had prepared for this eventuality already.
You see I have been reading about the dirty tricks those "Suddenly Ninja's" guys like to pull. I had Sanguine in an Orca, with a dual ECCM'd Armour tanked Hurricane in the Maintenance Bay- nothing was going to jam this baby, a sensor strength of 90 overloaded.
I switched out to Saint Juliana, who has the skills to fly a Hurricane really rather well. Jumped in a Shield Tanked Bellicose, and warped to the belt.
I grabbed the ore, and sure enough their bellicose aggro'd right away. I started pew-pewing down the Bellicose, and the Myrmidon arrived immediately. I was waiting until he aggro'd before I warped Sanguine in, as it was the Myrmidon I was after. As soon as his warp disrupter kicked in, the Orca lumbered into warp.
The enemy Bellicose went into armour before Saint's, however the Myrmidon was hitting pretty hard. I had sicked my Warrior's after his Ogre's and I think I got one of them, and gave the other a thrashing before he recalled it. My saviour, Sanguine arrived on the scene just as I hit my meager armour buffer (Slow ass Orca).
Open ship maintenance array - board Hurricane.... No Dice. Apparently you can't do that when you have Ore in your hold. Crap!! Jettison ore.. In structure now. And Switch. The comfy cozy confines of the Hurricane class battlecruiser.
The Bellicose is gone, he must have been spamming warp as he was also about to hit structure, and once the point dropped he made good his escape. However the flashy Myrmidon is there, and he is about to experience some come-uppance.
I fire up my 220mm Vulcan Cannon's, and sick my Drones after his hammerhead II's. He has a decent active armour tank, but it doesn't keep up for long with duel medium neuts fixed on him. Once only a wisp of his armour remains, he Deploys 5 Vespa ECM drones, the last desperate act. I merely overload my dual ECCM's in response. There will be no escape but sweet sweet death.
The old "surprise Orca" is practically infallible. As long as you are not forced to leave the safety of the docking radius of your friendly Orca. If things go south, simply switch into a frigate and GTFO. The moral of the story I guess is don't shoot people in High Sec, cause you never know what might come your way. Also ECM in small fights is lame and people will hold a grudge.

Can flippers be-ware

Inspired by entries in this site, and the deplorable yet entertaining antics at mylootyourtears. I resolved yet again to try strike out at can flippers and griefers. I have spent quite a few hours, with my main - mining away in a Vexor or an Exequror, but something about a 2006 toon mining in a cruiser in a belt doesn't encourage the locals.
So to this end I brought forth Saint Juliana, to strike righteous revenge on the piratical denzins of high sec.
I thought I would give some newbie pirates a surprise, and loaded a Bellicose with ancillary current routers. I wanted 4 midslots, so that I could fit a propulsion mod, dual webs, and a scrambler. To ensure nothing could escape my grasp. I fitted a Medium neut so that the helpless frigate would be capless - to let my 8 warrior 1 (some spare incase of getting webbed and killed), 2x dual 180mm autocannons and launcher chip away at them.
The extra grid rigs let me fit a 1600mm plate for my tank. A formidable opponent for any can-flipping frig. Well, I mined, and mined, a couple of days without response.
When this evening I decided to actively seek out the flippers myself, rather than let them come to me.
Saint undocked the Bellicose in Amarr, a bustling market hub, and scanned the nearby belts. A a few cans, hulk, arbitrator and a punisher (a notorious can flipper) on scan. Narrowing them down to a particular belt I warped in to assess the situation.
There was an arbitrator mining away with two mining lasers, and a can sitting along side. The punisher was lurking nearby, and the hulk rapidly left the area. I checked the corp details of the two pilots, while I began my own excavation of an asteriod. Nothing untoward, and no obvious friends in system.
The arbitrator locked me right away, and began some rather unsocial behaviour, bumping the Bellicose, mining my asteriod. And generally being a bastard.
My initial thought was that the punisher might be his pal, and that the arbitrator might act as a remote repair station for the formidable tank of the punisher if I engaged it.
So I thought I best even up the odds.
I quickly fitted a couple of T1 remote reps to my main Sanguine in his Arbitrator, and some medium repair drones. The Bellicose was made to kill frigs, not go toe to toe with an arbitrator, which doesn't need cap to do damage, and which has a much better tank.
By the time I had done this, and returned to Saint, I saw that the punisher had gamely tried to can flip the aggressive arbitrator, and had very rapidly been vaporised.
Well, with Sanguine entering system, I suppose I'll take a crack at it. I jettison a can, and sure enough the arbitrator flips it right away - and a hauler alt arrives and whisks my ore away almost instantly. Lock and engage. Hammerhead II's descend on Saint and rip through the shields of the basically stationary cruiser. I scurry to warp in Sanguine and get the reps on, but in the heat of the moment, the fleet menu is rather tricky to navigate. By the time he arrives, Saint is down to 50% armour, and the meager DPS of the Bellicose has just cracked the Arbitrators shields. Overload Reps, and armour repair bots are engaged.
Saints tank now holding, she continues to chip away at the arbitrator, now webbing his drones, and sending 4xwarrior 1's to ping away at them. He is too smart for that and recalls them, and considering he is at 200m from Saint, they are instantly deployed again. Saints Bellicose tank is holding barely, perhaps she can hold long enough to chip away at him? But the cunning arbitrator has neuts fitted, and the Bellicose's meager cap is now gone. As the damage control goes offline, and Sanguine too runs out of cap, she drops into structure. Damage control back online, another cycle of the remote armor repairer, but its too late. Pop goes the Bellicose.
The arbitrator by this time is at about 60% armour of what is clearly a buffer tank, and without hesitation he aggresses Sanguine.
Although it was a quick fit, Sanguine has a medium nos fitted, and 3 Cap rechargers. As well as a medium armor repper. So cap shouldn't be a problem this time around. I launch my own flight of Hammerhead II's and we go toe to toe. Sanguines armour is dropping, unable to quite tank the damage from the Hammerheads, but I have yet to overload. We slug away at each other, but I can see I have the upper hand. The aggressor hits structure first, I begin to overload at about 10% armour remaining. He pops with a satisfying explosion.
I give him a GF in local, but he is out of there, Amarr is full of spam anyhow.
An enjoying skirmish, I came out slightly ahead isk-wise due his collection of drones. My Bellicose was tripple rigged, which was a little excessive, and his arbi was tripple tri-marked. If I were to make a crime fighting Duo between Saint and Sanguine I would do away with the 1600mm plate and rigs, and add 2 x EAN and a damage control instead. And put t2 remote repps on Sanguine, as well as repping rigs so I could perma-run the cap. But it was a split second rapid fit with what I had in the hanger. I mean I COULD bring Sanguine in a RR Dominix, but where is the fun in that?
I would still pit the solo Bellicose against any frigs, probably even 2 frigs at once - with the fitting. But if people are game to can flip an arbi, maybe I should switch to them. Sure would make it easier.
Fun and games, I hope for many more.

this evening started out like any other. we are at war with another corporation but they havnt been around to fight, so i decided it was a nice time to learn how to probe out ships. i started in otou, my new old stomping ground. its one of my favourites because of the arrangement of belts makes it pretty easy to find people on the directional scanner. so i start probing and after about 20 minutes of that and no positive results, i decided to give up and try my luck on some targets i saw on directional scanner. i dock up and grab my trusty arbitrator all t2 fitted with my array of drones. this may not seem like much to you, but with only 4.5mil sp, i think im doing pretty good to have a -10 sec status mainly from the use of my arby.
i head out to my scan spot to start looking through the belts. i can see them on 360 but cannot seem to find anything on 5. so i decide to sit in a belt and wait. nothing comes. i grow bored and tired and make one last attempt at 5 degree scans and i get a hit, a punisher on planet 6! this is too good to pass up and will be easy for me to pop if i can get a lock on him before he bolts. i warp into to planet 6 area at 0 and viola, there he is and ready to fight.

Piracy

War, my favorite activity. War is my business, I enjoy my work. My desire to do this work started a very long time ago in Erila. I was in my second private corporation. I joined Apex Elite Security after my own initial corporation proved impractical for one person to run. Most of our operations were those of the mining variety. All of our other work consisted of security work for Caldari Navy. Inoue was home to all of us, it had everything we needed, but not everything we wanted. It was only a matter of time before our members grew restless and began roaming into Erila and Horkkisen.
There was always the burning curiosity for new pilots to explore the low security systems. We didn't know about the prevalence of piracy in low security, we simply knew that there were "bad" people out there, so it came as something of a surprise when one of our members' brutix was being attacked while hunting guristas. Naturally, we were all enraged, but still timid to the thought of engaging another capsuleer, one who probably knew more about what he was doing than we did. I hopped into my brand new, and poorly fitted Moa, Vlad in his caracal, and Drake in his bellicose; we tore space heading over there, just in time to see the our corpmate's pod approaching the gate back to inoue. We went to the belt where it happened, not knowing what we wanted, but definitely finding out what we didn't.
We arrived to see a rupture floating about, it's pilot, Sinickal, wasted no time in showing us what she was there for and proceeded to lock onto Drake and engage with great fervor, the kind only seen by people who really enjoy what they do (I only experienced this later). Drake, like us, had no idea how to fit a ship effectively for any purpose, we all went for the fabled "MacGuyver" fit that so many new pilots choose to go with; his bellicose didn't last long, all the while we were firing everything we had at this pirate, this person of low moral fiber. Next one on the spit was Vlad, he was the first member of our corp to have a cruiser, it's a pity that it had to go without a single kill under it's belt.
I really don't need to put very much detail into the combat because if you're reading this, you can probably imagine more or less what happened. All I need to point out is that at that time, warp core stabilizers had no penalties that would deter even a new pilot like myself from fitting them, and it saved my moa. Saved it so I could warp off, defeated. I felt demoralized, I was a director, we had just recruited a new pilot not more than an hour prior, and we got sent running with our tails between our legs. After the obligatory, "We're going to keep coming back until you're dead" type of conversation that almost always happens when young capsuleers get their first taste of combat was over, we took to decreeing that Erila was off limits for our corp, we even took such a stance as to tell our people that they shouldn't shoot each other because it wasn't good comradery. Eventually, I learned to respect what Sinickal did to us that day; she inspired me to learn more about fighting, that's for certain, but she also made such an impact as to be the first big step to being the pilot I am today. Also, yarr.
