Pandemic vision (webbTV) now in highresolution broadcasts :)

Hi y'all.
Some update on our video streaming/broadcasting project.

We now broadcast in even higher resolution, check it out at Pandemic Vision.

To watch the feed you need to download a p2p plugin from RayV to watch it. I'm sorry but there's no flash or wmv stream available due to the sheer cost of running traditional broadcasts.

With p2p the bandwidth will be balanced between all the peers who watch and wont tax our servers that much (in turn, keeping cost down).

Take a look at it. We're streaming a lot of EVE related content and nice fights. In the future we will also send live from our ops during fights! :-)

Oh, and a mac and linux version of the plugin is on its way according to the maker of this software.

If you're from a corporation or alliance and would like to broadcast your own material - contact ander@eve-pirate.com for more info!

Beastoria strikes again ?

I'd say that I am kindof a tattoo addict.
I got my first one in 2001 and havent stopped since ... I've got 4 now and planning number 5.

In 2004 I decided to get myself the one eve-online picture I've loved since I saw it first ... the guristas bunny.
I got it 1 week before the fan fest and let's just say that there were lots and lots of free beers for me from the CCP staff ;-)

Well ... then came the time for a new tattoo.
I wanted it made on my other calf and I wanted it to match the guristas bunny.
I searched and searched and searched but to no avail.
But then I wandered into www.eve-pirate.com and saw their ad on the site wich had this skull in it.
The moment I saw it I fell in love with the skull and I had to have it since it matched my guristas bunny in a nice way.

I immediatly sent Ander a PM, being in the same corp for over a year I thought he could get the high res for me, asking him to give me permission to use it as a tattoo.
He replied with the answer I hoped for ... the time has come =)

I contacted an old friend wich works as a tattoo artist here in Reykjavik and had him give me the details on pricing and such.
I think its safe to say that I 'LOVE' the new tattoo and I wanted you guys to see it aswell since the people here at eve-pirate.com helped me get this done.

I want to thank the designer for allowing me to use this awesome skull and I also want to thank Ander for getting me the permission ;-)
I also want to thank Don Don the tattoo artist ... he tattoo's at Tattoo69 in downtown Reykjavik ;-)

And in those words I give you teh pictures !

24/7 EVE fanmade broadcasts

Hi eve-pirate readers :-)

I'm finally able to announce the project which has stolen my time over the past few weeks.
It's basicly a new broadcasting service that sends fanmade videos.

The project is currently in beta but it's ready to be tried out.
We're using a plugin made by a company by the name RayV which need to be installed in order to watch the live feed.
It's what makes it possible to run this with low bandwidth need on our servers as well as providing a good quality stream (peer-2-peer). The player will infact spread the load on each viewer watching the stream.

In next update of our broadcasting service we will be adding live PVP battles. Which means when there's a PVP battle that we are part of we will broadcast it live. Yes, that's right. Everyone will be able to see it live!

So if this seems interesting to you, head over to MMOVI.ES - Pandemic Vision.

Oh, and we also accept user submissions :-)
Got any good EVE related videos you want to broadcast? Contact me and we'll arrange something!

Problems with article comments - FIXED

We had some problems with comments on articles over the last 24h.
This was due to one of the spamfilter services we used had gone offline.

They've now been removed from our filterlist and you may now post comments again.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

EVE Trinity REBOOT issues

Due to a bug in the installer some people who installed the premium graphics update before 4am GMT on Dec 6th may suffer serious issues when trying to reboot their computers with Windows XP/2000.
The problem is due to the installer accidently removing boot.ini outside EVE install folder.
The boot file which was supposed to be deleted was the one inside EVE folder but due to path problems it deleted the one in c:\ .

Click the link to get information on how to resolve the issues.

Or simply copy paste the following text below into "C:\boot.ini" if that file is missing (only for Windows XP):

Come back CCP! all is forgotten

Today the latest expansion "Trinity" hits the EVE servers.
Hopefully all goes well and we'll get to enjoy an even more beautiful EVE once the servers are available!

Corporation Management

Hi, a few days ago I received a chat convo from a player named Zepticon. He was not blessed with the advantage of English as a first language and was having trouble recruiting newer players. But, not only that his corp's bio left a lot to be desired.

‘We are recruiting…
Miner, mission, ratting...
I pay 1.2m ISK if you join.’

Cleared for publication by: Ander
Rest of story moved to extended body.

It's that time of month again

Yes citizens of EVE, it's that time of month where we ask you to support us!

Please support eve-pirate.com :-)
Link to eve-pirate.com and we'll return a link to your website in our left menu.

Send me (ander at eve-pirate.com) a notice and notify me of the link.

If your site is big or a collection of mmorpg sites, please email me first for verification. We prefer small hobbyist sites rather than big websites.

Also - did you see our big full page ad in the latest EON? Thanks Mahe for your great work on yet another kickass ad!

Sorry for lack of posts :)

Don't worry there'll be lots of content coming up in September!
I've simply had a bit of vacation (mostly working actually..).

On the bright side - we've selected a winner for the "EVE-Pirate.com dumbest" award . I bet you can guess who! :-D

Oh yes. It's the guy who threatened to sue me for what some anonymous poster posted in a comment in another thread here at EVE-Pirate.com. "Beck Altarr"

I still didn't get a public apology for his threats so that's why it goes up. There's lots of fun to be read in the goonswarm recruitment post he made. Appearently he has also been namedropping Goonswarm as a mean of threatening his war-enemies. I'm sure Freaky has much more juicy stuff to reveal about this issue :-)

Oh.. I we've also selected a winner of the next EON ad. It's the same author as our previous EON ad. Don't worry - this ad has the same quality as the previous ad.

A prize will be sent to Mahe as thanks for making this wonderful ad (to be revealed in next EON, hopefully)!

Awards to the most active posters!

Alright, part of the awards for our top 5 most active posters has been sent this month.
flashfresh and freaky are in the lead among most active posters. There're still 3 spots left, come on people. Lets get some more material to post, it's getting to become a dry summer ;-) (not IRL though...).

Get an ego-boost!

Writers who are promoted to author level may have their posts published without being cleared by senior staff of eve-pirate.
Any such author may also display his character picture alongside with his post.

To have your character picture displayed please email it to "ander at eve-pirate dot com".

I've increased the size of character pictures which will give an extra ego boost to cleared authors. :-)

A post which sums up pretty much all that a new player should know :)

I took the liberty to repost something longey wrote on the eve-pirate.com forums:

Welcome to Eve!

I'll answer the easy question first, to see a list of your skills, you can either download 'EveMon' (google it as I don't have the link on me). This is an independant program used to plan skills, VERY useful tool. It asks for your character username and password, and from there will display your skills. Have a play with that. ;-)

If you don't want to download that, go to the Eve online website, click 'My Character', enter your username and password, then click 'My Character' again to see a list of you characters. Click the character you wish to view and it will display various information for the selected character, including all skills and what skill is currently in training (if any) with a timer showing when the skill will be complete (same timer available using evemon)

Next, un-experienced player using a high skill character. It may be that your experienced character has not been 'designed' for combat or pirating. So you'll need to see where all your SP (skill points) are for starts. Some characters are trained up for trading/mining/manufacturing/researching/etc which would require pretty much training from scratch to get in to combat, so check that first. ;-)

Next, when your Eve client gets working, log in. You should see 3 character slots, hopefully one of them empty. If there is one available, create a new character. Try and chose the same race as your 2yo character so you can get a feel for the races ships and weapons.

Make sure you do the tutorial, it was changed when Rev II was released and I've not had a chance to have a look at it. Based on the old tutorial, it is very long and pretty boring at times, but the things you'll learn there will hopefully stick for your entire time playing Eve. It teaches you a huge amount, enough to 'overload' almost anyone, but they are the basics of gameplay. Trust me when I say there is a HUGE amount to learn in Eve.

Right, you have your new character by now hopefully, completed the tutorial. This character is only temporary to get you through the basics, train frigate skills and weaponry, get used to the basics you've learnt. Practice killing NPC rats by doing missions and searching Asteroid Belts. Then learn up electronic, navigation, drones, mechanics... get a feel for the variety of modules available.

Once you feel confident, switch to your experienced character... Keep flying frigates, maybe cruisers. Get yourself a steady income and a few solo kills if you can. Don't be afraid to lose ships, and try not to be tempted to go jump into some expensive t2 ship which you may already have the skills for, to get revenge... because until you've built up your experience there's a good chance you'll lose that one too.

Join a corp, explain your situation, and they should explain, help, and teach you the rest of the way until you are on par with your character.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Adsense 4tl

Please read my text on EVE-Online forums regarding google adsense.

Recently Adsense approached me with "reports" on how I could increase my revenue by not blocking so many links.

These reports are automated and are basicly telling me that several links which pay a lot of money are being blocked. I could simply make more money by unblocking them.

I have no intention what so ever as to unblock these people. Infact I've been continuing my war against ISK sellers by encouraging my users to report isk sellers to have them blocked.

Recently Google returned to me and told me that some of my clicks were fraudulent. I dont know what kind of clicks these are as they refused to release the information on what types of clicks were caught as "fraudulent". I'm guessing it can be either these types:

1. Myself clicking ISK seller and then having them blocked. Matching my IP to a click on the site to using Adsense administration tool to filter IPs.
2. My text under adsense advertising that says "report isk sellers" and users clicking ISK sellers and then having them emailed to me to be blocked.
3. Automated traffic generated by some other source to put me in a bad position.

I dont think number 3. is the case. Instead I contacted Google and explained my situation but they simply responded that all links must follow their guidelines. Do you think they have a policy against ISK-sales? Nope, I didnt think so either.
So I cant report those links as violating rules. Finaly the response I got from google simply told me that if they keep finding fraudulent clicks they may simply turn off my account. Okay? So they're threatening me now. I've already told them that I'd like to know what kind of clicks are fraudulent, but they still refuse to tell me. Weird.

So...
It's time that all EVE fansites put some preassure on Google Adsense. Sites that cant afford to not stand without adsense and still dont want to have to filter ISK sales all the time.

I think it's time that some of us fansites group together and ask Adsense to refuse ISK sellers ads. It's our sites and we should be able to decide what type of ads should be allowed on "EVE Online" sites.

One fansite may not be able to put preassure on Google Adsense, but if 10 or 15 community fansites who use adsense group together we can make them listen.
Or as we'd say in EVE. Lets gank them.
